Happy Book Birthday to THE SPLINTERED LIGHT!
Here’s author Ginger Johnson to introduce this middle-grade novel…
“When my oldest son was a baby, I spent a lot of time pushing a stroller and walking the neighborhood streets in a sleepless haze. This coincided with reading a collection of essays about physics, cosmology, astronomy, etc., called “Mind Over Matter: Conversations with the Cosmos” by the science writer K.C. Cole. Though the two activities (reading books about cosmology while sleep-deprived) seem mutually exclusive, I did have a few lucid moments during those walks with my son, and in those moments, I was completely taken with the elegance of our world. I began seeing everything around me in a new way. Really, why was the sky blue? Why was the earth brown? Why were plants green? I decided that I needed to tell that story.
“And so came Ishmael, an 11-year old boy who lives a monotonous and grief-filled existence on his family’s meager and colorless farm. The only break in his grief is a strange light that pierces a pane of glass in the barn and splinters Ishmael’s world into a spectrum of color he never knew existed. When the worries of the farm become too great for him to bear, Ishmael sets out to find his older brother Luc and bring him home. His search takes him to the Commons, where he discovers a wonder and beauty that intrigues him and calls to his heart.”
We’re so happy you’re at our party for THE SPLINTERED LIGHT. Join in the fun…
PARTY SOUNDS…
The Hall of Sound has a welcome anthem prepared. When that’s done, they have a bell choir to delight party-goers (unless party-goers aren’t delighted by the sound of bells, in which case, there will be earplugs).
PARTY FOOD…
The Hall of Gustation has arranged for a rainbow layered cake and a sweet and spicy chilled frothy drink.
PARTY GAMES…
The Hall of Motion has rigged up a display of wind spirals carrying powdered colors. There will also be a table with rocks to build cairns. One wall is covered in paper to create a mural, and there’s a booth with a chocolate tasting.
PARTY FAVORS…
Pencil and paper from the Hall of Shape, gears from the Hall of Manufactory, bubbles from the Hall of Motion, a prism from the Hall of Hue, a hanging scented glass globe from the Hall of Scent, dark chocolate from the Hall of Gustation, and a small bell from the Hall of Sound.
