Book Birthday Bash: Song For a Whale

Book Birthday Bash

Song for a WhaleHappy Book Birthday to SONG FOR A WHALE!

In this middle-grade novel, the only place twelve-year-old Iris really feels at home anymore is in her electronics workshop where she repairs antique radios. She’s the only deaf student at her school, so she can’t talk to the other kids there. And she’s a frequent guest at the principal’s office. She always loved spending time with her deaf grandparents, but Grandpa is gone now and Grandma isn’t the same without him.

Then, during a science lesson about sound waves, Iris finds out about a whale who is unable to communicate with other whales. Iris knows how he must feel, and she’s decides to figure out a way to reach out to the whale and tell him someone hears his song.

We’re so happy you’re at our party for SONG FOR A WHALE. Join in the fun…

PARTY LOCATION…

On an Alaskan cruise!

PARTY SOUNDS…

Whale songs.

PARTY FOOD…

Breakfast tacos from a good gas station cafe, like the one Iris stops by before taking off on her journey to track down the whale. Chocolate milk instead of coffee. Then, cruise ship cuisine like Alaskan salmon and creme brulee.

PARTY GAMES…

Iris’s favorite thing to do is repair old electronics she gets from the junkyard or antique store, so we have a table piled with electronics parts that party guests can build things with. It’s set up on the deck of the ship, of course, so we can whale watch! One of the club rooms are set up for sign language karaoke, where Iris’s grandma is hanging out.

PARTY FAVORS…

Compasses and origami whales
